From the intersection of U.S. Route 7 and Massachusetts Route 102 in Stockbridge, take Route 102. After 1.6 miles, turn right, across the Housatonic River, into what looks like the parking lot for a Mead Paper factory (the side of the red brick factory reads “Hurlbut Papers Willow Mill” in white paint), but is actually Willow Street. Willow Street merges into Beartown Mountain Road, the forest’s main drag; from Mead it’s 3.8 miles to the CCC Camp on the right-hand side of the road. Park here. Highlights: Riding deep in the woods, imagining yourself as Thoreau. Mud is a hazard here, call ahead. Tread: 13 miles of doubletrack; 2.8 miles of paved road; 1.2 miles of dirt road.
