This ride's general location is Lincoln. Scenery is a blur. The first stop for serious downhillers, this is one scary mountain. At 2,100 feet, Loon Mountain has the most vertical drop of any resort ride in New Hampshire. Double-black-diamond markers are prominently placed at the summit to frighten off inexperienced cyclists who somehow passed the quizzing by shop employees. For those who dare, the reward is a fast, fast ride over trails that are pretty well blazed, marked, and maintained. For those who opt out of the downhilling, there's a consolation prize: a modestly sized but excellent network of cross-country trails. Lower trails cut an easy path along the river; more challenging ones reach 800 feet up the side of the mountain. Loon lets you ride them free of charge too. A single color map with contours serves both systems, and a connecting trail lets you descend directly into the cross-country area.
