This ride's general location is Chittenden Reservoir, north of Rutland. Scenery is mostly wooded, with views of Chittenden Reservoir and Pico Peak at the beginning and end of the ride. This is a good loop for anyone new to trail riding. The Reservoir sits high in the Green Mountain National Forest at an elevation of 1,500 feet. This moderately challenging loop circumnavigates the reservoir, beginning and ending at Chittenden Dam. Part of the ride is on national forest roads and another section rolls through dense forest on cross-country ski trails that are part of the Mountain Top Ski Touring Center trail network. There are no long climbs, but several challenging sections of double-track trails make this a little more than a beginner ride. There have been sightings of moose, wild-turkey, geese, and a bald eagle. To the south are great views of Blue Ridge Mountain and Pico Peak, and to the east you can see the ridge where the Long Trail passes through.

September, thankfully there are almost no green flies. Entered from entrance near the Mountain Top Inn. I only did about thirty minutes, as there were a lot of down trees, which made going slow. Otherwise, it is a nice single track with some good downhill sections as well as riding through tall grass and over some wood bridges. Did the trail a few months back on horse back so I know it is a nice route if you have several hours to make it around, would be nice if some of the brush was cleared out.
