This ride rolls over a series of moderate north-south ridges from Middlebury, before leveling out near the shores of the long Lake Champlain; along the way it passes cow pastures, cranberry bogs, a state park, swimming and camping, a maritime museum, and a waterfowl preserve. In October the skies sound with ducks and geese flying south. If you like horses, stop to visit the Morgan Horse Farm in Weybridge. Terrain: fairly hilly for first 8 miles, then mostly flat to Vergennes. Mildly rolling hills from Vergennes to Middlebury. Traffic/Safety: traffic is generally light except in Middlebury and Vergennes, with increases during the usual commuting times. There are two brief encounters with busier Rte. 22A, be prepared to pull over for trucks while on it.

We thought this was a nice ride. Started from Middlebury, making this about a 50 mile loop. Roads are very rural, little traffic, with nice views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks across the lake in New York. Roads along the lake are quite flat, but the ride down from and back to Middlebury cross several ridges, with some moderate climbing. Overall a very nice ride through rolling farmland.

This is one of the best rides in Vermont. It's beautiful. If you start in Middlebury a great place to grab lunch is in Vergennes, a little over half way. The Three Squares Cafe is cute cafe with great food and a patio to sit outside. The beginning and the end of the ride is pretty hilly, no gaps, but hilly, the middle is flat. One thing to note is the climb from Ottercreek through Weybridge is a bit of grind, not super steep, but long and at the end of the ride. Enjoy!
