John Allis, a three-time Olympian, mapped this route in 1972 by tracing the least busy roads leading west from Cambridge. You'll explore the near-rural suburbs of Lincoln, Sudbury, and Weston. Since you pass so many attractions, you should do it at least once as a leisurely ride. Terrain: rolling suburban and rural roads, with some extended climbs at the beginning in Belmont (which means "beautiful mountain"). Traffic/Safety: There is traffic at the beginning and end of this semiurban ride, on Trapelo Rd. and Pleasant St. (Rte. 60). On the return, watch for traffic inside Rte. 128.

The 13 mile loop is nice, but not nearly as scenic as the 27 mile loop... the longer ride is definitely worth it.

Great ride with lots of options. The only thing I would suggest would be to avoid pleasant street unless you have a full suspension bike. The road is bumpy to say the least, and I have the feeling that if I would need to retrue my wheels frequently if I went through there a lot.
