This ride begins at the town green in Hopkinton, at the starting line for the world-famous Boston Marathon. Instead of following the busy streets the marathon takes, this ride heads south and west into a more rural setting, passing through the towns of Upton, Northbridge, and Grafton. Mark this ride for late October when the countryside is glowing with red oaks and yellow maples.
In the summer you can swim and picnic in Hopkinton State Park. Terrain: rolling roads, with some climbing at the beginning, and a steeper, 1 mile ascent at 26 miles. Traffic/Safety: as is typical of many tours in New England, this ride alternates between less-traveled rural roads, sometimes with a narrow shoulder and patchier asphalt, and stretches on smoother rural highways with faster-moving traffic.
