This route explores the pond-studded terrain between Sebago Lake and the White Mountains. On a sunny day in mid-March, this is the perfect ride from which to take in the scenes of a winter's end-skiers enjoying the last runs of the season on the slopes of Pleasant Mountain, snowmobilers zipping around widening patches of corn stubble, ice fishermen dragging their bobhouses off Moose Pond. In the summer the same lakes are playgrounds for boaters and swimmers. This ride will appeal to cyclists wanting to enjoy alpine views without any more than a couple of short, steep climbs. Terrain: rolling terrain with hills. Two climbs, about 1 mile long each: from North Waterford to Waterford, at 26 miles, and again at 37 miles. Traffic/Safety: most of the roads have speed limits of 40 to 50 mph and narrow shoulders-stay alert.
