At the southern tip of Lake Winnebago, enjoy a route that begins in a bike-friendly town with a French geographic description that means “bottom of the lake.” After leaving town the cruise gradually mounts the scenic ridge, where you will enjoy the views looking out over Deneveu Lake before clicking into your high ring and cruising down the south side, passing a dairy operation with a statue of a cow on the corner. Now turning to the west, visit a town named after the Garden of Eden. Next the route jogs southwest to a village named after a poet, with a cheese plant the only thing there today. As River Road snakes to the west, you soon turn north on Mill Pond Road to a town named for the limestone quarries, where upon leaving you pass a large heard of elk. After crossing the highway, visit a town named after another poet and historian who sprang into popularity during the French Revolution. A couple miles farther north, the route turns to the east over semiflat farm fields. As you return to Fond du Lac, enjoy the bike-designated city streets that allow you to ride safely back to the park.
