At the gateway to the beautiful Kettle Moraine State Forest, biking here is renowned. You leave from a town named for the silt at the river’s bottom and ride east. Along the route experience the peacefulness of rolling hills as the challenge approaches a village named after an oasis city in the Syrian Desert. Riding the rolling ridge, you pass Ottawa Trail Park as the route turns southward. You then cruise down to a town named by a couple of surveyors who saw a large bald eagle rise up. Farther south you pass an open-air museum that showcases early pioneer living in Wisconsin. Rolling in and out of the kettled forest, you soon pass through another village that was once used as a stagecoach stop. Next you sidestep southwest and stop in a village named after a French general. Now circling to the west on Kettle Moraine Road, stop at a well dug in 1895 and fill your water bottles. You then come full circle back to the north and soon return to the lakefront park in Whitewater.
