In an area that borders the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, discover the peace and serenity of riding through parcels of forest while circling around the area’s lakes. Located between Hayward and Minocqua, this route departs from a community surrounded by flowages created from dams built in the logging era. The town suffered a major fire in its early years but was rebuilt with the red brick and sandstone architecture you see today. Leaving from a grotto park full of concrete statues that some say are haunted, the cruise travels back into town and then west to the Phillips chain of lakes. You’ll luxuriate in the chain’s tranquil setting as you meander along the south shore of Long Lake. You will soon approach and circle another lake fed by the Elk River, called Lac Sault Dore. After crossing the river the route circles up to the north then jets to the east along the northern shore of the lake. Soon you cross the highway and ride up and around another pristine lake setting before returning back to Phillips.

Mile 24.2 "Cross Hwy 13 onto Old 13 road". This was not accurate. Must turn L at Hwy 13 to reach Old 13. Mile 27.0: West Solberg Lake Road was gravel -- not paved (had to turn around at this point).
