Sightseeing here on the North Shore doesn’t get any better than this! The ride begins where the early voyageurs started their 9-mile portage up to the Pigeon River to get from Lake Superior to the interior waterways. Leaving from Grand Portage, the ramble follows some of the same routes into the wilderness that the explorers used coming to and from the Northwest Company’s trading post in the mid-1700s. After the steep climb up the Sawtooth Mountains, the view here is picturesque, showcasing Grand Portage on Lake Superior’s shoreline. After riding the rolling ridge high above Gitchi Gami, you will start the long descent to the North Shore Scenic Drive. The return route offers another chance to ride alongside the rugged shoreline back to Grand Portage on this scenic byway.
