This ride leaves from Aitkin, once a popular meeting point for Indians and explorers, including Zebulon Pike, Father Louis Hennepin, and Joseph N. Nicollet. Departing from this old riverboat town at the confluence of the Mississippi River and Ripple River, the ride heads south. Rolling past several of the area’s 365 lakes, the route circles up through the Cuyuna Iron Range. Winding around a series of now abandoned open mine pits, filled with water to make Minnesota’s newest lakes, the ride pauses at the famous Wood Tick Inn. Here in the town of Cuyuna, you may have the chance to witness those pesky little blood-sucking ticks in a heated race. You’ll return to Aitkin to take in this river town’s past, while enjoying its hometown hospitality.
