Here at the southern gateway to Minnesota’s prairie, you will have the opportunity to see what the frontier was really like when the buffalo freely roamed this region. Starting in Luverne, a town built from quarried local Blue Mound stone, you’ll cycle around the lush farmland of the Rock River Valley. As you reach the northern point of the cruise, you will be greeted with Dutch heritage. Soon the route climbs up the blue ridge and circles back to the south. Visiting Blue Mound State Park, you can see buffalo still roaming the rocky prairie. If the bison are not visible from the state park’s viewing platforms, you’ll be sure to see and photograph these great creatures at the Prairie Heights Bison Ranch on your way back to Luverne.
