This is a ride where the scenery surpasses the thrill of the trail. Numerous protected birds call this 95,000-acre refuge home. It is common to cruise by one of the twenty-six pools and see trumpeter swans, loons, sandhill cranes, and eagles relaxing in their protected environment. About 35 miles of clearly signed dirt roads, closed to motor vehicles, are open to bicycles. All the potential routes pass bird-inhabited pools and through red pine forests and clearings. It is the perfect area for cyclists of all ages to enjoy a relaxing ramble and picnic. Don’t forget the binoculars. Tread: 22.4 miles of dirt road.
