If you are looking for buffed singletrack, then skip this ride; but if solitude and adventure are your goal, read on. This rugged pathway rolls endlessly on a slow often-spongy trail. Mixing doubletracks with dirt roads, the pathway rambles through areas of selective logging and over many downed trees. The often-steep hills plunge through two clearings with an old-orchard feeling, perfect for a picnic. Although marked with numbered posts and maps, the trail has some confusing sections, possibly the result of logging. The North Country Trail crosses nearby, and a log cabin—a skiers’ warming hut in the winter—gives the area a rustic feel. Tread: 5.2 miles of doubletrack, 1.1 miles of dirt road.
