The “mountain” in Black Mountain Recreation Area is an exaggeration; but in an otherwise flat landscape, these hills are welcome relief to cross-country skiers, hikers, and bikers. With about 35 miles of trails, Black Mountain offers many different loops of varying length.
This ride takes you around the perimeter of the area, up and over Black Mountain twice. On the way you pass two inviting wooden shelters and many black-diamond side loops and catch a glimpse of Lake Huron on the north side of the trail. The route ends on a series of challenging hills that will lure you back with your cross-country skis when the trails are blanketed in white. Tread: 15.4 miles of doubletrack.
