Two singletrack trails, designed specifically for mountain bikes, opened during the summer of 1998 at this popular recreation area. The 7-mile Murray Lake Loop zigzags through a virtually obstacle-free forest. The hills are just enough of a challenge that bikers might have to walk their bikes if caught in the wrong gear. The descents occasionally plunge into a trough, propelling cyclists to the top of the next hill. The 5-mile Torn Shirt is a more demanding loop. Hills that leave you breathless, logs to hop, and rocks to avoid help make this the more challenging of the two loops. Tread: 12.7 miles of singletrack.

The "Torn Shirt" trail loop is the more technical of the two. I like to ride them all. The scenery is great, like most of the state parks in Michigan.

Great ride with the sun out. Day was cool with a stiff breeze but comfortable. Trail was mostly dry with a few areas of moist ground but no standing water. A few of the low level ponds in the woods still had some ice on them. Saw a total of 5 other riders during our ride making it seem we had the trail to ourselves. Great first ride of the season.

This was the first time on this trail and thought it was great. We stayed on the easier trail but still very challenging in parts. trail was in good shape, you have a number of varying lengths you can ride...and if it were hot when you ride they have a great beach area to swim in when your done!!!
