The Escanaba Trails are yet another set of north woods mountain bike trails near the small town of Boulder Junction high up in the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest. The trails are connected at the north end of the cluster to the Lumberjack Trails covered in the preceding chapter. The Escanaba Trails, however, differ from the Lumberjack Trails in the sense that they cover much more technical ground. There are two main loops, one surrounding Pallette Lake, the other surrounding the system’s namesake, Escanaba Lake. Fishing is permitted in both of the larger lakes, with a great deal of shoreline accessible along the bike trails. For a good long day of riding, try the Escanaba Loops, ride north to the Lumberjack Trail, return to Escanaba and spend the rest of the day on the shore of Pallette Lake casting for smallmouth bass.
