The Nine Mile State Forest Trails are very fun, very technical, and much less strenuous than many of the trails listed in this book. Imagine taking the best technical singletrack and knocking out all the climbs, leaving just the switchbacks, hazards, and washboard areas to navigate. Then weave the entire network into a complex maze that cuts back in on itself time and again offering an entire afternoon of riding. These features are what make this cluster a perfect introduction to singletrack riding for the amateur or a reduced-strain playground for the more advanced rider. The trails are divided into three categories: Green, the easiest trails, closest to the chalet; Blue, intermediate riding; and Red, the expert loops labeled the Alps and Little Alps because of their climbing. Elevation Change: Nearly the entire trail system is run over flat land with climbs of only 10 to 20 feet over very moderate grades. The only trail with any climbing is the Red "Alps trail" that cuts back and forth across the same bluff with several steep climbs of 90 to 100 feet.
