When you ride this loop, you'll quickly see the intensity of the love affair Minnesotans have with water in general and with lakes in particular. As a popular recreational body of water in this region of countless lakes, Pelican Lake is the perfect example of how residents manifest their feelings for water. Besides buying boats by the thousands, they build cabins. Locals and nonresidents alike build houses of various sizes and shapes close to the shore and close to one another-all so that they can be as close to this object of their affection as possible. One advantage to cycling in this area with many resorts and cabins is the number of quality paved roads that you'll find circling and connecting the various lakes. As more people build cabins in these areas, the counties end up paving and widening more roads. Though all these improvements to local roads may ruin the feeling of isolation you may hop for in lake country, it also makes for some incredible riding.
