Lanesboro, the origin of this ride, sits snugly between bluffs along the Root River, in one of the only areas populated by Amish in Minnesota. The Root River Trail follows a railroad bed as it links several small towns in this scenic area. For riders who don't like to climb, this mostly flat trail provides the perfect way to tour the deep valleys and steep hills of the region. And Lanesboro, with its many historic inns and guest houses, makes an excellent base from which to explore this rugged country.

The trails out of Lanesboro are our favorite. On this particular day we rode Lanesboro to Preston and stopped in the sandwich shop and got our lunch to go. We continued the trail toward Harmony then found a nice location by the stream to have our lunch. A wonderful spot. We live 2 hours north of the area and try to make this trek at least twice during the biking season. We recommend it highly to all

This is one of the most scenic, best easier rides anywhere. The grades are gentle and the scenery is wonderful. Lanesboro has lits to see and do for a stopover and we recommend this highly. Camping is allowed in the Lanesboro city park, just off the trail.
