This is a short ride at 13 miles but well worth it, as it swings through the park at Timm's Hill, the highest point in Wisconsin. For many years Rib Mountain, near Wausau, was the thought to be the highest point in Wisconsin. A geographical landmark that towers 1,940 feet above the surrounding countryside, Rib at least looks somewhat like a mountain. Surveys in more recent times have shown that Rib is not Wisconsin's highest point; in fact, it's not even the second-highest point. Rib comes in at third place, "dwarfed" by Timm's Hill, which towers 1,951.5 feet above sea level, 11.5 feet higher than Rib. The problem with Timm's Hill is that it merely pokes above surrounding countryside that is already a thousand or so feet above sea level. For instance, Timm's Lake, below the Hill, is at 1,800 feet. Country RR is an official state "Rustic Road," one of hundreds of Wisconsin roads so designed for their rural charm-and light traffic. It's a heavily forested, winding road that bobs up and down through a gentle series of roller-coaster hills. Despite being the highest point in Wisconsin, this ride is relatively flat. Things to see: Ogema; Timm's Hill County Park, with observation towers and Timm's Lake.
