One look at the small town of New Glarus and you'll see why it is aptly named "America's Little Switzerland." Swiss-style architecture abounds along the highway coming toward New Glarus and up and down the two-block-long Main Street. The Swiss Historic Village Museum looks down from a hillside on the west edge of New Glarus, and at least a dozen original and replica buildings provide an authentic Swiss feel to your visit. The Chalet of the Golden Fleece Museum displays wood carvings, jewelry, and other baubles.
The Swiss Miss Lace Factory turns out Swiss lace and embroideries on looms imported from the homeland. Feast on Swiss Food at several restaurants and stay in Swiss chalets while you bike in the area. If you hit it just right, there might be a festival over the weekend, perhaps even a performance of Wilhelm Tell. Things to see: Sugar River Trail, New Glarus, Swiss Historic Village Museum, numerous Swiss-related attractions, restaurant, shops.
