The James S. Miner Riverwalk offers a wonderful combination-an unspoiled, peaceful, tree-filled section that winds along with the Shiawassee River, and a section that leads to many of the area's historical attractions. And all this in only 5 miles. The rest of the loop twists and turns through old residential sections and farmlands before returning to the banks of the Shiawassee River.
Begin in Corunna's McCurdy Park. Before or after the ride, bike to the southwest corner of the park to visit the Shiawassee Valley Historic Village, where several historic buildings have been moved here to form a village: the 1888 Christ Evangelical Church, with stained-glass windows and pipe organ, where you may see a wedding in progress; the Lemon School, sparkling white with black shutters, and, of course, a school bell; and other buildings still under restoration. The park also offers tree-shaded picnic tables, drinking water, and restrooms. Things to see: Shiawassee River, historic village in McCurdy Park, boyhood home of Thomas E. Dewey, Curwood Castle, towns of Owosso and Corunna.
