The best way to explore the many attractions of Michigan's "thumb" area is on a bike. And this route covers them all: a ghost town, a lighthouse and museum, sandy beaches, the home of the grindstone, and more. Start this ride in Port Austin, a quiet, lakeside community that rests at the very tip of the thumb. Things to see: Historic Huron City and Grindstone City; Pointe aux Barques Lighthouse and Museum; sweeping Lake Huron vistas.

Started the tour at 8 AM the Friday before labor day. Saw about 5 cars before I got to 25. Be aware Rouse road is not paved so if you are not comfortable on unpaved roads stick to Peason Road. Lighthouse road is a great winding tree lined road with a great views of the lake past Huron City. I came across about 10 deer grazing on the side of the road 1 mile short of Lighthouse County Park. I avoided 25 on the way back and backtracked through Lighthouse road and Pearson. Overall a great ride.
