Cadillac seems to be the gateway from western Michigan to the resort areas of northern Michigan. Many people never make it beyond Cadillac, however, and one of the reasons is the beauty of Mitchell State Park and beautiful Lake Cadillac. This short but scenic ride takes advantage of both. The shore is so close that you can almost lean left on your bike and stick the toes of your foot in the water. The views of Lake Cadillac are great on both sides. Things to see: Lake Cadillac, Mitchell State Park, Kenwood Park Nature Area.

Beautiful, flat, scenic path. Some sidewalk, some street (with wide shoulders). Excellent map--I took it with me, but i didn't need it.

Although I live in Cadillac and probably ride around the lake 5 or more times a week in the summer, it can't be beat. The sound of the waves hitting the shore and the breeze off the lake on a hot summer day is delightful. To make the trip a little longer I would recommend circling both lakes. It adds on about 11 miles and does have about a 2 mile section of unpaved road, but the ice cream at Thirsty's (on M55) makes it a worth while ride.
