This tour takes you through the magical landscape of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. It's one of the routes on the three-day Leelanau Lakeshore Loop, organized by the American Lung Association of Michigan and held the second weekend of September. Each day different tours of 30 or 50 miles are offered. A place has to be pretty extraordinary to be designated a national lakeshore, and that description fits Sleeping Bear Dunes perfectly. The 300-to-400-foot-high dunes are the gift of the last continental glacier that filled the Lake Michigan basin as recently as 12,000 years ago. Shifting sands, landslides, and blowouts can change the landscape in the blink of a geologic eye. Here are there are the sand shifts to reveal a ghost forest of standing trees that were once engulfed by the same forces that finally exposed them.

Great ride very poor map!! Road are mislabeled. 625 is actually 675 as someone already noted. 616 does some funky turns that are not clear as you approach 109 before going north toward Glen Haven. In addition you really have to pay attention to not end up on 675 instead of 669 as the map shows. Doing this cuts about 10 miles off the trip. That being said it is a great ride there are a lot of hills and it can get very intense if the wind is blowing at 15+ mph. Make sure to stop at the Cherry Republic on your way through Glen Arbor to carb up on some free samples!

The roads on the map are not correct, 625 is actually 675;615 is actually 651 (Start of ride). There are several steep long climbs. All in all it was a great work out but I did get confused by the incorrect road numbers.
