The Lake Wappapello Section of the Ozark Trail passes over a wider range of habitats than almost any other trail in the Ozarks. Over its 31-mile length, it crosses creeks, follows mountain ranges, cuts through open fields, and skirts the edge of Lake Wappapello. With a six-mile loop in its middle, its image on the map is that of a python that swallowed a pig. Most of the trail follows single-track and narrow double-track, with a few stretches of gravel roads that access wildlife food plots. Though it has many easy sections, overall it is just a bit too rough for novices. With so much water and variety of habitats, wildlife is thick along the trail. This trail is located 25 miles north of Poplar Bluff.
