This area was discovered by several mountain bikers out of Springfield, who called the place the Mecca because "You end up praying, one way or the other." There are two main routes through the area. Forest Service Road 1002 is a double-track road that can easily be ridden by beginners. Some unmaintained roads branch off FS 1002 and FS 1195, which is currently unmaintained. These roads offer some fun and challenging riding for those who want a little more than double-track. Most of these roads are dead-end trips that allow you to return to the main routes without getting lost. Wildflowers grow out in the open area left by the burn, and in spring, dogwoods scatter patches of white on the surrounding wooded hillsides.

Activity Type: Mountain Biking
Nearby City: Cassville
Distance: 8
Trail Type: Out-and-back
Season: Spring and fall are the best season to ride the Mecca. Summer brings heat, humidity, ticks, and chiggers. Part of the ride passes through an old forest burn, where you will be exposed to the sun. White this makes summer riding uncomfortable, it can help warm a winter ride, and the views will be bett

Same as previous review. FS roads with lots of ATV use. You can make it a loop by riding back up hwy M

If you're expecting great single track, look elsewhere. This is primarily a forest service road with branches that are frequented by ATV's. There are some very scenic points along the way but the climbs are insane. They are staight up hill (no switchbacks) in loose rock about the size of your fist. And these are not short climbs. They continue up for over a mile. Not to mention that the trail is totally wasted by the ATV's. Not recommended.
