The New River Ramble is an ideal ride for beginners with its scenic setting and minimal traffic. Following the South Fork of the New River, the route stays in the valley between slopes covered with Christmas tree farms. The ride follows the same road, built on an old railroad bed, from the small town of Fleetwood to the historic general store in Todd, where food and drinks are available as well as benches on the front porch for relaxing. Although this area is becoming popular for vacation homes, the river’s protected status as a Wild and Scenic River has curbed rampant development that has overtaken other mountain areas to the south.
