The Asheville-Biltmore Ramble, a delightful but challenging 17.5-mile ride, takes you by many of Asheville’s scenic and historically important sights and through architecturally diverse neighborhoods. It begins at the South Forest Shopping Center south of downtown, travels through Biltmore Forest, and passes near the entrance to the famed Biltmore Estate. After a challenging climb to downtown, the route winds past Pack Square and the Thomas Wolfe Memorial to the historic Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa, which offers spectacular views of Asheville and the mountains beyond. After passing the campus of the University of North Carolina at Asheville and the UNC Botanical Gardens, the route diverts through the Montford Historic District before heading back downtown. The route weaves through interesting streets in the heart of downtown, past the Grove Arcade, and then turns south to the starting point.

The best part of the ride is the very beginning on Vanderbilt Rd in the town of Biltmore Forest. The homes are spectacular, roads in good condition, beautiful foliage, and no traffic. Coming out of Biltmore Forest and into downtown Asheville, the trail becomes dangerous, both traffic-wise and road condition wise. The sidewalks are cracked and not conducive to road bikes. I would suggest getting lost in the Biltmore Forest around Vanderbilt and enjoying the seclusive affluent neighborhood.
