The 55.7-mile Cabarrus County Challenge leads you from the quiet streets of downtown Concord, the county seat, south into the rolling countryside before sweeping east across the southern part of the county to Reed Gold Mine. The terrain is rolling but most hospitable to cyclists, with only a few serious climbs. Historic churches bear witness to the religious commitment of the county’s earliest settlers, who sought religious freedom here. Numerous parks are available in the towns, but services are limited otherwise; you should carry ample water and snacks with you.
