Think of this trail as Black Mountain Extra, Extra Light. It’s got a respectable (if smooth-surfaced) climb up Thrift Cove, then returns along the lower section of Black Mountain. The descent back down is either a lazy roller coaster (with a few surprise rock gardens) or a scorching, teeth-chattering run, depending on your choice of speed. It’s a good alternate if anyone in your group isn’t up to the challenge of a full assault on Black Mountain. Tread: 3.3 miles of singletrack; 0.4 mile of gravel Forest Service road.

This short loop is absolutely FANTASTIC, it can and MUST be done both clock and counter clockwise. Up Thrift Cove and down Black Mountain, or Up Black Mountain and down Thrift Cove.. no matter which way you go, they are both 100% worth while. Going up Thrift, is a lot easier than going up Black, and going down Black is a lot bumpier and rougher, but down Thrift is a rocket ride!! I suggest you do this beauty VERY early, or late, just wait for the parking to be empty, make the short sweet climb, and let go of those brakes on the rocket ride down. This loop will put a smile on your chops for a whole week!! www.mountainbikemayhem.com
