The combination of small loops connected to a doubletrack out-and-back make approximately six miles (total) of off-road riding in Hickory, North Carolina's Hilton Park. And the number of miles is growing. The result is a popular urban mountain biking destination for those who don't have time to make the trip west into the Pisgah National Forest. This park is a good place to bring the entire family. A nearly quarter-mile-long section of the greenway passes along the creek, and some of the treadway has been boardwalked. The three-foot-wide surface floating directly on top of the water undulates under the weight of hike and biker, giving a unique feel to biking. Note well: Inexperienced riders should dismount and walk their bikes across this part. But form those who can handle the tricky weight shifts required on this section, ride it. The maze of singletrack trails makes this an interesting place to explore without fear of getting lost, but sharp bike-handling skills are required.
