The 125-mile trail is roughly half paved/half gravel roads. This point-to-point starts at Burke's Garden and runs in a southwesterly direction before ending at the parking lot for Guest River Trail. Burke's Garden is unique in many ways. This circular valley lies at an elevation of 3,100 feet and is completely surrounded by a sandstone ridge, giving it an aerial appearance of the Garden of Eden in a lunar crater. From the garden, follow the route through beautiful rolling hills, up and over a mountain or two, through Tazewell's verdant pastures, through lesser-traveled sections of Jefferson National Forest, and past some of Virginia's most spectacular real estate. There are also nearly 40 miles of out-and-back side trips where you can view such awesome sights as the Pinnacle at Big Cedar Falls and Russell Creek Falls before ending on the 5.8-mile Guest River trail along a scenic section of the Guest River. Make this as short or as long as you want but don't wait too long to explore this area of Virginia's southwest.
