This ride's general location is 5 miles off Interstate 81 and east of the town of Buchanan. Scenery includes densely wooded forestland en route to excellent views of neighboring peaks before descending toward the James River. This loop climbs Thomas and Pine Mountains on gravel forest roads and grassy double-track and ends with a stretch on hard-surface road back to North Creek Campground. It offers some interesting riding with great views and a large degree of solitude. Unfortunately, this otherwise great downhill is littered with large pines that have blown down across the trail, as if a giant had spilled a box of toothpicks.

Great ride! The first section is along climb on some double track. This then breaks into a piece of singletrack along the ridge. Next piece is a double track fire road to the top. And to finish off the ride, is a great piece of downhill single track. Enjoy!
