This ride's general location is 10 miles east of Buena Vista. Scenery includes lush greenery along Pedlar River; some mountain views from Shady Mountain Trail. This figure-eight loop lies on the eastern edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains and combines some decent uphills and downhills on Forest Service roads with single-track through forests of hardwoods, pines, and hemlocks. It takes in Panther Falls and a couple of really nice downhills on the Shady and Taylor Mountain Trails. An assortment of evergreens and deciduous trees keep most of this ride pretty cool. Starting from a primitive campground on the banks of Pedlar River, you'll also find yourself in the shadow of Coleman Mountain, Brown Mountain, and the Blue Ridge Parkway as you loop back and forth across the lower Pedlar River and Little Irish Creek. You'll even cross the Appalachian Trail at one point, but beware of a 3.5-mile climb that gains 1,000'.
