This ride's general location is 25 miles west of Staunton. Scenery includes great views of neighboring peaks as you reach the top of Walker Mountain. This loop combines a lot of forest road through a cool, hemlock-shaded gorge adjacent to Clayton Mill Creek with a 1.2-mile stretch of single-track. You will grow to love the area for its beauty, solitude, and proximity to some great out-of-the-way places, like Goshen Pass and Williamsville. The initial six-mile climb on hard-packed forest road is not easy, but for a rider with a moderate amount of stamina it makes a challenging introduction to the kinds of lengthy ascents you're likely to find in Virginia's national forests.
