This ride's general location is 15 miles west of Staunton. Scenery includes superb top-of-the-world views of neighboring peaks as you near Little Bald Knob. The ride starts with a 9.8 mile climb on hard-packed forest road and continues to climb rougher double-track to the top of Little Bald Knob across what appears to be the top of the world. A hairy single-track descent will lead you back through Horse Trough Hollow and the North River to end the ride. This ride is suitable for intermediate to advanced riders with good stamina and the good sense to hop off the bike and walk when necessary. You can expect to ride this route year-round, but pick another ride when the possibility of snow and ice may be present on the Forest Service roads or at higher elevations. Caution should be taken during fall and winter hunting seasons; plan to wear brightly colored attire during those times
