This ride's general location is 10 miles west of Harrisonburg. Scenery includes lush riparian areas and clear views from mountain ridge tops. The ride usually starts at the Briery Branch eatery at the intersection of VA 257 and 731. From there it's a long climb to Briery Branch Gap on hard-surface VA 924, followed by one of several routes back to the bottom via Hone Quarry and Hone Quarry Lake. Starting from Switzer Lake you'll climb steadily for more than 10 miles along rocky, rutted double-track before you reach the Shenandoah Mountain ridge top just below Reddish Knob. From there you'll fly down to the Hone Quarry Campground and Recreation Area. This descent is a hairy one.
