This ride's general location is 22 miles north of Fredericksburg. Scenery is densely wooded with intermittent streams along trails and roads. These are good family rides. The park offers almost 10 miles of dirt and gravel roads open to bicycles. By using the hard-surface Scenic Drive in conjunction with unpaved roads and one of the park's free bicycle guides, the beginning biker or family can have a great time pedaling through this 17,000 acre forest. Many of the rough-road paths open to cycling don't connect to others or dead-end, so aside from the Scenic Drive, it's difficult to put together a loop of any size. You will see and enjoy the sound of quite a few streams as they cascade across rocky creek beds. This has also created a varied habitat that beaver, wild turkey, and a vast assortment of threatened and endangered native plants call home.
