This ride's general location is 40 miles east of Lynchburg and 20 miles north of Farmville. Scenery includes dense woods, cut-over areas, and open fields in the rolling Piedmont region. This is a good family ride. The trail has a number of possible starting points where it intersects state roads, although the recommended trailhead is at the forestry center for Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest. The Carter Taylor is well marked as it winds its way through the state forest along single-track, double-track, grassy, overgrown no-track, and gravel roads. Overall the loop is relatively flat, easy to follow, and a trail that riders of all ability levels can enjoy. It's also possible to develop a number of shorter loops by using the hard-surface state roads that intermittently intersect with the trail.
