This ride gets its name from a really great bakery in the town of Saluda. Since you'll ride all the way down into South Carolina and back up, a stop for refueling at the bakery in Saluda might be a good idea. There are plenty of rolling hills at the beginning and end of the ride, but the main attractions are the long descent into South Carolina, the long climb through the Greenville watershed and another long climb into Saluda and back to Hendersonville. None of the climbs are very steep, just long- really long. If you've got the time there are several short side trips worthy of note- one to the Carl Sandburg Home and the other to the historic Flat Rock Playhouse. Points of interest: Carl Sandburg Home (short side trip); Flat Rock Playhouse (short side trip); Saluda Wildflower Bakery (open Thurs.-Sat.) just off route; Greenville watershed.
