Cyclists on the Virginia Peninsula, from Williamsburg to Newport News, have been diligently developing what can be considered excellent mountain biking routes in a region otherwise devoid of accessible off-road cycling terrain. Far from the rugged landscape of the Appalachian Mountains or the peaks of Virginia's western highlands, mountain bikers in this Tidewater region have had to search far and wide for great places to ride. And if they couldn't find them, they created them. The Harwood's Mill Mountain Bike Trail in Newport News Park and nearby Dogwood Trail at Waller Mill Park are evidence for he hard work and creative spirit of the many Eastern Virginia cyclists who developed these trails. Both trail systems combine heavily forested hilly terrain with winding, technical singletrack, guaranteed to challenge even the best off-roaders. Trail Surface: Twisting singletrack and dirt roads.
