This ride is extremely technical and also pretty hard. Expect to portage your bike across a number of clifftop boulder fields. The fabulous views and exceptional trail riding in between make it all very worthwhile. Highlights: Boulder fields, clifftop views, portaging, fun single track

Beautiful overlooks, lots of campsites. Relaxing to the experienced, challenging to the unexperienced.

This is one of my favorite trails as it offers up several types of terrain and has stunning views all season long. During our trip the leaves had for the most part already fallen. Some maintenance had been done recently to the Massanutten side of the trail, but the Tuscarora trail still had several fallen trees over the trail. Other than that, the trail is rocky as always and one of the best in Northern Virginia.

this is a very hard trail if you climb counter-clockwise (pink trail) from the rear of the parking lot. recommended for very fit climbers able to negotiate difficult rock gardens and steep intermittent grades; there are few opportunities to rest prior to reaching the ridgeline (blue trail). this climb also beats the cr-p out of your bike on the clockwise descent. ps an excellent primer for the sm100 if you are looking for a solid 4 hour workout.
