This loop will take you along the short, albeit exciting, trail built within the 1,400 acres co-managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Izaak Walton League of America. Please respect the posted closures and do not venture into the property between October 1 and March 31, lest you want to become “hunted.” The former Woodmont Rod & Gun Club, now Woodmont Natural Resources Management Area, is situated in western Maryland near the town of Hancock. The nearly 3,500-acre parcel was purchased by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in 1995 and is co-managed in partnership with the Woodmont Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America. The parcel includes a historic lodge with panoramic views of the Potomac River and West Virginia.
