Privately owned, the trails in Sugarloaf Mountain used to be a popular mountain biking destination. In the past few years, however, overused trails prompted the managers of the Sugarloaf Trail system to close the area to bikes during the weekend. Today, portions of the Saddleback Trail remain open to mountain biking but only during specific times. The Sugarloaf Scenic Circuit is an alternative to the otherwise excellent but off-limits trails up on the mountain. This circuit of dirt, gravel, and paved roads surrounding the mountain will allow cyclists to experience all the beauty and serenity this Maryland countryside has to offer. For information about the Saddleback Trail and when it is open to mountain bikes, contact the Stronghold Corporation directly.
