I cannot understand why so many guides to biking in DC advise the use of 13th street N.W. as a north-south route. 14th street is a much safer choice and has a marked bike lane along most of its length. 13th is wide enough to attract a lot of vehicle traffic but too narrow to allow motorists to pass bikes safely -- not a good street.
