This short ramble will give you the benefit of four trails and whisk you about what is a veritable commuting trail during the week. From the starting point down by Roosevelt Island, it climbs up into Rosslyn and eastern Arlington, peaking around the East Falls Church Metro and sweeping you back down the W & OD Trail and Four-Mile Run Trail down the west side of Arlington. Hop onto the Mount Vernon Trail as it comes out of Alexandria and you’re on your way back to the starting point. Along the Potomac, you can take in the sights and the tourists seeing the sights. Early in the morning and just after work, this ride is peppered with joggers, cyclists, and commuters. During the middle of the day, for the most part, you will find that you have the sunny trail to yourself. Things to see: “Contemporary urban development,” wildflower meadow, bird sanctuary, pretty neighborhoods, creek, and Potomac shores.
