This loop begins and ends at Doughton Park on the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. The excellent landscape architecture often has a picture-postcard quality that glosses over daily existence in this region. There are several thrilling descents and a few steep climbs along this route. For much of the journey, the road is surrounded by wildflowers and grassy cow pastures. A warm, sunny day in late spring or summer is the ideal time for this route. You'll follow a mountain stream as it winds back to the parkway. Numerous Christmas tree farms of fraser fir and blue spruce climb the hillsides.
